-Tuesday July 31st -National Night Out Challenge

Thank you to all the people who helped plan and volunteered at the NNO Challenges last month.

The city challenged each ward to undertake community service this summer. Ward 2 representatives decided to paint the bathrooms at Seidler Field, a city playground and pool on North Avenue not far from the Netherwood Train Station, and to beautify the South Avenue side of Netherwood Train Station. For many years Netherwood Train Station has been a focus of FOSH attention and care. FOSH pitched  in for the Ward 2 efforts by buying materials and obtaining donations for the project.  FOSH and ward 2 volunteers showed up to weed plant and pick up  litter.

Now that all the planting is done, if we don't water the plants that were donated and planted, they'll die. So if you can take a turn at watering, please indicate what week is good for you or any weeks you'll be unavailable, and send an e-mail to plfdward2@att.net. (Then, of course, hope for rain.) We'll give you instructions. If you can bring a long hose, you're ahead of the game because there are beds near the sidewalk around the sign, a bed to the left of the stairs to the tunnel, a big bed in front of the station, and some big concrete pots. (There are also two of those on the North Avenue side which will also need watering so a watering can will help.) You'll want pliers or a ViceGrip to turn on the faucet as New Jersey Transit has sensibly removed the knob.  The faucet can be found behind the bushes on the side of the station facing South Avenue.

-September 30th, 2007 Animal Celebration, 1:30 p.m.
The Friends of Sleepy Hollow (FOSH) invites everyone  who loves animals to the annual Celebration of Animals, Sunday, Sept. 30, at Leland Avenue Park, just south  of Cook School in Plainfield.

Friends and neighbors will gather at 1:30 p.m., with blessings offered by various local religious leaders at 2 p.m. for any animals in attendance, on leashes or in carriers for their own safety, or photographs, favorite toys or other things significant to companions who would be uncomfortable in the park or have passed on. This event has been held for almost 10 years in conjunction with the Feast of St. Francis, the patron of animals.

FOSH will provide biscuits, bowls of water and clean-up bags for animals, cake and coffee for others.

Those interested in more information or in helping with the Celebration of Animals are urged to contact FOSH at fosh@foshnj.com. FOSH is an all-volunteer, non-profit, civic group devoted to the betterment of Plainfield. Other the years, the FOSH Animal Initiatives Committee has assisted with trap, spay or neuter, and return projects for feral cats, purchased and contributed animal oxygen masks to the Plainfield Fire Division and otherwise devoted resources to helping animals in need.

Help the Netherwood Train Station!!!

· Would you like the train station to make the best impression on newcomers?
· Would you like to be a part of the sponsoring committee running this program?
· WE WOULD, PLEASE HELP!!!

FOSH is asking for donations to assist with the sprucing up of the station. The plan is to work with a local landscaping service that will help us remove and replace dead plants and plant seasonal flowers in the pots.
